Episode Soi Kitty
version 13
What's a soi kitty? "Soi" is Thai for street. "Street Kitty".
What I've been up to: Stuff
"Sup dude? What you been up to?"

Right now I live in La Puente, CA. I work at Liferay as a software engineer, and Evergreen SGV as a pastoral intern. I am going to school at California State University of Long Beach for my undergraduate degree in Computer Science. I am in my ∞th year of school.
So I guess I have more free time suddenly. April and I were planning this ginormous, complex wedding plan... but now we're resorting back to something more standard. It's a bummer, but at the same time a less time consuming venture.
It seems to be a battle of a few things here:
1) We like being creative. Imagine the wedding is a box. People color in the box. People organize and rearrange things in the box. This is how weddings work. But we don't even want a box. We want to drill holes out of the box and step out and have clouds and ponies and mountains and glittering rainbows.
2) We want a wedding that is a representation of us. April's not really into flowers, we think speeches are boring, we're not fans of cake (except the band), we're not that into sentimental things, and we like spontanaety. Can we have a "wedding" without all of that?
3) We're kinda burnt from our last idea being cut off abruptly. We're pretty tired on many levels of coming up with ideas that don't make it to execution. We're also very "all or nothing". We don't come up with "easy" ideas, or ideas that come from "compromises". So.. we're forced to come up with a new grand idea, or just throw in the towel and just do a wedding without ideas.

I went to Ralph's today and bought most of their ribeye steaks on sale (16 steaks in total)... I left a few, cuz I felt kinda bad. I'll probably stop by again in the coming days until the sale is over. It makes such a delish dish.
Today I'm gonna go to the silent theater for the first time. Should be fun. They play silent movies, and there's an old dude who plays the piano or organ or something along to the movie. Every time I go to LA I wonder if I can find bacon-wrapped hot dogs out there. My imagination seems to think there are hot dog carts on every corner in LA... or at least it feels like that every time I'm out there on a hungry stomach with no cash.
As of late I've been working on front-end look and feel for the Sesame Street websites. At first I despised it, but now that I'm getting it I enjoy it. I guess everything feels nice when you know what you're doing...
At the same time it's nice being lost and confused when you have no expectations or time limits on you, and you're in a nice situation. That's called an adventure =)
Life has been mostly wedding planning and friend hang outs here and there. April and I are having a hard time thinking of ways to work the "wedding template" to our advantage. We don't like lines or boxes all that much. We had one massive idea that got turned down, so we're recovering from that (details to come). Another idea we had was to have a petting zoo at our reception... but we're pretty sure the church won't know how to dispose of all the poopies and feathers.
Why does life have to be so complicated? Shruggles.

Things have been fun. Right now I'm at Victor's bachelor retreat thingy (we're in Oceanside, watching Kung Fu Panda). Well, they're watching it - I'm typing. I'm tired... but everyone is up. I'll conk out eventually.
The past few months have been so busy, and now finally... I think I can relax a little bit.
I don't know what to type about.

Koreans don't use basil in their food. In fact.. from what I remember, they think cilantro tastes like soap. Ok, Ryan at work tells me that his whole family (who is Korean) likes cilantro. He says it's just not native to Korea. I would dare to say that Koreans in Korea don't like cilantro.
This I mention because I was trying to make basil/tomato/moz. cheese salad for lunch today, but the only nearby market is Korean, and they don't have basil.
This led me to the next inaccurate, spontaneous, Korean prejudice: Koreans like mud on their vegetables. I moved for spinach as my basil replacement, but the spinach was filthy. It was like, "whoa, there's spinach in this sand castle!" Maybe it makes it seem fresher?
I should be getting my limited edition "Beyonce" Samsung Upstage celphone, to replace my "normal" Samsung Upstage phone. It's purple and has gold buttons. I'm not into Beyonce, but I'm still a little excited.

Last night was cool - went to LA and met up with with Mike, Carrie, Terry, and Amy. We went to The Counter - fun concept, basically a "build your own burger" joint. Only complaints are that the place was PACKED, and seating was limited. Burgers were gigantic. The guys got 2/3 pounders - I can't imagine the full pound burgers. We all played apples to apples for a long time. It's funny how much you start to learn about each other through that game.

You see... at my work, I generally juggle three things: themes, newsletters, and live site stuff. Now, the boss-boss knows that I work on themes. This whole time I never knew if he knew I was assigned by my immediate supervisors to work on newsletters, and the live site. Well, today it was revealed to me, that he didnt' know.
Anyway, what this boils down to is an unresolved story of "I work hard, but my manager doesn't know it."I take my break at my desk instead of eating out like others, and he'd just keep seeing my screen when I was on break =/ So today he commented that I need to "make sure I'm working even though I'm [he's] not watching"... which led me to understand that there's a misunderstanding.
Needless to say I was totally bummed out after work after hearing that comment. Thank God for my counselor - I almost didn't want to go to counseling, but I did, and my counselor calmly and patiently reassured me that the situation is fine, and I he affirmed my thoughts that I just need to talk to the boss.

A 15 oz jar of cheez whiz is 1,170 calores. I'm kind of surprised and not - I thought it would be more. I've been eating white castle at work to save money, and I've been adding a little kick of cheez whiz to each burger. I get a great deal of weird looks from coworkers.. but it's really just another 90 calories to my meal.
Things have been so darn busy as of late - feels like every weekend is super packed. My weekdays are work and school and hanging with April... then weekends are filled with church related things (technically work, for me). It would be just killer to take a vacation. In fact, I don't totally remember the last time I had a vacation exactly.
To me, vacation usually means being away from home. And usually it needs to be longer than just a weekend. It's almost like the weekend is just repair from the 5 weekdays before it. The vacation is everything beyond the first two days off.
The last time I had vacation, then? January 2006.

Last night I hummed the ghostbusters theme as I went into the outback "laundry shack" armed with a spray can of spider killer. There were two black widows (maybe one black widow "to be", and her hubby) near the dryer and they had to go. This is the life of an evergreen intern. Shruggles.
I got my weird 80's Koss Portapro headphones. I found that by taping down the size adjusters with scotch tape, it prevents the headphones from pulling the hairs out of my head (literally). They do have an airy nature to them, which is nice. It's always nice to find a good deal =)
